The following is an example of a passive survey with a Proxim adapter detecting 40 MHz 802.11n and 80 MHz 802.11ac channels.

  • Channel 8 is a 20 MHz channel.
  • Channel 6,-1 is a 40 MHz channel (802.11n).
  • Channel 161 P, 80MHz, 149-161 is an 80 MHz channel (802.11ac)

40 MHz Channels

Displayed with the primary 20 MHz channel followed by either ,1 or ,-1.

  • ,1  indicates the Primary 20 MHz channel and the adjacent 20 MHz channel above, i.e. 36,1 is channel 36 (primary) and channel 40
  • ,-1 indicates the Primary 20 MHz channel and the adjacent 20 MHz channel below, i.e. 40,-1   channel 40 (primary) and channel 36

80 and 160 MHz Channels

Displayed with the primary 20 MHz channel, 80MHz or 160MHz width, and channel range.

               i.e. 161 P, 80MHz, 149-161

802.11ac Channel Configurations

The following table is taken from the AirMagnet Survey User Guide.  It shows the UNII 5 GHz bands and all applicable 20, 40, 80, and 160 MHz channel configurations.
